I am so excited to begin collecting fabric for Khloe's Bai Jai Bei (100 Good Wishes) Quilt!!
So many of you have been following along side of us on our journey to bring home our daughter who waits for us in China; and from the outpouring of support we have received through your emails and comments, I know there are MANY of you who have followed, supported, prayed for and loved Khloe while she has been at ND. Whether you yet realize it or not, you have all been a part of her life in some special way. With that said, I would love for ALL of you to be represented in her quilt, as you have all been permanently weaved into our story!
For anyone who isn't familiar with a Bai Jai Bei or 100 good wishes quilt, they are a tradition in the northern part of China where it is a custom to invite friends and family to contribute a patch of cloth with a wish for the child. Part of the patch of cloth goes into the quilt for the child, and the other part of the cloth can go into a Memory Book with the wish for the child. The quilt contains the luck, energy, good wishes (and BLESSINGS!!) from all the families and friends who contributed a piece of fabric. The quilt is then passed down from generation to generation.
My goal is to have all of the fabric contributions collected by October 1st, so that the quilt can begin being assembled. This gives everyone about one month. If you'd like to contribute, please send a 12"x12" square (or larger...incase we'd like to use it in more than one square/design) of quilting fabric, along with your wish, prayer and/or favorite scripture for Khloe. You can contact me via email (found in my 'about me' profile) and I'll send you our mailing address. Thank you so much for being a part of our special journey to our daughter!

There are so many different ways you can assemble your wish/blessing, so again, this is only one example. Be creative and give it your own special touch! This is from YOU...so it should appeal to you and be personal. The fabric will be part of her quilt and your wish/blessing will go into a very special memory book so that she can identify which fabrics came from who?! :o) We contributed two different fabrics to Sophie's quilt...one that Breanna picked out (shown as the tie/ribbon) and the Chinese children fabric that I picked out, glued on the wish page itself. You can also include a photo of yourself/family, etc... on your page, whatever YOU choose to do! Remember...it is from YOU to Khloe!! :o)
I have not yet decided on a pattern or an exact style. I absolutely LOVE hand crafted quilts, so I want this to be really well done by someone who is a skilled quilter with an eye for detail. I have an eye for detail, YES!...but a skilled quilter, I am NOT! So I plan to hire it out. If you know of anyone who possesses this great talent, please send them my way!! I would love it to be someone who 'knows' us or is following our journey...but most importantly, this is an HEIRLOOM and I want it to look like one!! ;o)
I will post photos of some of the fabrics and good wishes as they arrive. Thank you all for following along on our journey and being part of Khloe's life story!! <><

I am SO EXCITED! This is the time of the year that I start my quilting projects for the fall/winter and I have been pouring over books and websites for ideas. This is just so fun to consider getting to be a square contributor for SUCH a special quilt! I've heard about these quilts but never a part of one. And I have the perfect Northwoods fabric if you are open to fabrics that aren't just Asian. (In fact I thought of Khloe YESTERDAY when I was going through fabric!) HONEST!
As for calling myself a quilter, I have to admit, I'm more of a piecer rather than an actual quilter. I love putting them together. (If you go back in my archives to see my very first or fifth blog post I made a quilt/wall hanging for LWB last spring. It was one of 2 quilted wall hangings that I worked on last year so I've got a ways to go yet! I'd recommend a long-arm quilter maybe if you want lots of designs and swirls. They do a beautiful job. Although I have known some really great older ladies who do it by hand and do a great job too! If you email me your address I'd love to add a square and a prayer page. Oh and what size do you want the prayer page to be. Standard 8.5 x 11? (I'm a graphic designer who loves books too so I am into the specifics I guess. Are you going to have it bound or are you going to put it in a ring binder?)
Here's my email if you want to let me know your address:

I'm excited to shop for fabric with Khloe in mind. My new job is near a trendy little quilters fabric store. I'm going to have to stop in and see what captures my eye with her in mind. How fun and special!!
Blessings,
Kelly
I don't know the first things about quilting unfortunately. I can barely sew on a button! But what a wonderful idea! This quilt will surely be a treasured keepsake for your little Khloe!
And even though I won't be contributing a quilt square due to my lack of skills, I will continue to pray for you on your journey to adopting this special little girl.
God Bless!
Angie :)
I will send you a swish.
Just e mail me with your address. I can't do it until the end of the month but promise to do one.
I'm still working on our daughters as well.
I know how truly special it is to have something so special as the wishes and quilt for them someday.

Tanya, I've been trying to click on the email address in your profile. I'm not having any luck. I have a company computer so it doesn't always do what I want it to. :) Could you email me your mailing address? Thanks so much. jillchale@yahoo.com
